Starting from January 1, 2027, the government will launch end-to-end price monitoring for 24 socially significant food products. This was announced on November 8 by Igor Igoshin, first deputy chairman of the State Duma Committee for the Protection of Competition.

"From January 1, 2027, end-to-end price monitoring for 24 socially significant products will begin. This is not a price freeze or government regulation of trade surcharges. It's about observation and analysis — about seeing an objective picture of pricing across the entire chain, from the manufacturer or importer to the counter," he told TASS.

The list includes the most in-demand products that form the basis of the diet of most families. The list includes fish, several types of meat (beef, pork, lamb, chickens), butter and sunflower oil, milk, cheese and eggs. The monitoring will also cover sugar, salt, flour, bread, rice, buckwheat, pasta, potatoes, beets, onions, carrots, tomatoes, cucumbers and cabbage.

To collect objective data, the Federal Tax Service will transmit information about suppliers' transactions with retail chains, sales volumes, as well as business income and expenses. The Ministry of Industry and Trade, the Ministry of Agriculture, the Ministry of Economic Development, the Federal Antimonopoly Service and Rosstat will receive these materials.

Stanislav Bogdanov, Chairman of the Association of Omnichannel Retail Companies, said on October 17 that pork, chicken eggs and butter have become the products with the largest price reductions in Russian retail chains since the beginning of 2026. Their cost has decreased to 19%. According to Bogdanov, rice and millet also fell in price in January–September, by 12% and 9%, respectively. Prices for potatoes and seasonal apples decreased by 6%, and for mutton — by 5%.
