The party of French presidential candidate Jean-Luc Melenchon has proposed withdrawing the country from NATO and nationalizing a number of defense enterprises. This was reported on November 6 by Politico.

"Immediately withdraw from the NATO joint Command, and then, gradually, from the organization itself. To abandon the tribute required by the United States in the amount of 5% of GDP, intended for defense spending," the publication says.

At the same time, the party does not propose to completely stop assistance to Ukraine, but insists on a diplomatic settlement of the conflict and the provision of collective security guarantees to its participants and other European countries. The movement also advocates stricter arms control, the closure of the NATO space center in Toulouse, and the development of France's own space capabilities.

In addition, the program provides for increased investments in the national production of military equipment, including communications, intelligence and logistics, which are now mainly supplied by the United States through NATO. The party also proposes to nationalize a number of large defense enterprises, including ArianeGroup.

French presidential candidate from the National Unification Party Marine Le Pen announced on November 5 that the country should cease to be a member of the NATO joint command, since remaining there is contradictory against the background of records on the deviation of the state budget from the regulations adopted by President Emmanuel Macron. In her opinion, the current participation in it contradicts statements about the need to create a European defense system.
