- The Ministry of Internal Affairs listed signs of children's involvement in dangerous online communities
A drastic change in the design of pages on social networks, publications about hopelessness, increased interest in the topic of death and a desire for isolation may indicate the involvement of a child in destructive online communities. This was announced on October 27 by the press service of the Department for the organization of combating the illegal use of information and communication technologies of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.
"The presence of one of the listed signs does not in itself indicate that the child is in danger. However, if you notice any warning signs, talk to the teenager and seek help from a specialist," the message on the Telegram channel says.
According to the Interior Ministry, one of the first alarming signals may be a change in the content of a teenager's personal pages. Instead of the usual positive publications, gloomy images, videos and music appear, as well as recordings about loneliness, despair, mental pain and loss of meaning in life.
Experts called increased attention to death another possible sign. In particular, we are talking about subscribing to communities that romanticize loneliness and suicide, saving relevant materials and participating in thematic discussions.
The agency also warned about the danger of online communities distributing tasks that could endanger the lives and health of teenagers. Such materials are often posted in closed Telegram channels. In addition, a child's interest in videos of cruelty, animal abuse, and trash streams may be a cause for concern.
Parents were advised to pay special attention to changes in their children's daily behavior. A teenager may start avoiding socializing with peers, skip classes, stop doing homework, and spend most of his time alone.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs called direct statements about the intention to commit suicide the most serious signal. The disturbing manifestations also included farewell messages to relatives and subscribers, relevant publications on social networks and the search for information about ways to self-harm.
At the same time, the ministry stressed that individual changes in behavior do not necessarily mean the influence of destructive communities. Parents were advised to be attentive to their children's condition, discuss problems with them, and seek professional help if necessary.
On the same day, Roskomnadzor launched an initiative to introduce mandatory identification of underage users of social networks. The relevant bill has already been sent for consideration to the relevant committee of the lower house of parliament. In addition, the regulator proposed to set limits on the length of stay on the Internet for children under the age of 14.
