Flavio Bolsonaro concedes defeat in Brazil's elections
Flavio, the son of former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro, has abandoned his intention to seek the annulment of the presidential election results. This was announced on October 26 by the R7 portal.
Instead, Flavio Bolsonaro plans to challenge the victory of the current head of state, Luis Inacio Lula da Silva, through the court.
According to the portal, the senator from the Liberal Party intends to file a lawsuit alleging abuse of economic and political power during the election campaign. The decision to change tactics came after party members and lawyers pointed out legal obstacles to the cancellation of the voting results.
On October 26, G1 TV channel reported that Lula da Silva won the second round of the presidential election and was re-elected for a fourth term. In turn, Flavio Bolsonaro refused to recognize the results of the presidential elections in the country. He also called the decision of Supreme Court Judge Cristiano Zanin to extend the voting time by two hours "unacceptable."
On the same day, Russian President Vladimir Putin congratulated da Silva on his re-election and birthday. He noted that the voting results confirmed the recognition by fellow citizens of da Silva's outstanding leadership qualities and support for his course towards sustainable socio-economic development of Brazil and the protection of its sovereignty and legitimate interests on the world stage.
