Backup fate: the average price of a hard hat jumped by a quarter in a year
The average casco policy receipt in the second quarter of 2026 reached 63.8 thousand rubles, which is a quarter more than a year earlier, <url> financial marketplace told Izvestia. Insurers have confirmed the trend. The main reason is the rising cost of spare parts and repairs. If in 2024 it cost an average of 160-180 thousand rubles, now the price tag reaches 260 thousand. Because of this, people are increasingly insuring used cars, as well as switching to reduced policies to lower the price. Which spare parts have risen in price more than others and what can restrain the price increase — in the Izvestia article.
Why is casco increasing in price so much
Voluntary car insurance continues to rise in price: the average casco check in the second quarter of 2026 reached 63.8 thousand rubles, an increase of 26% over the year, according to analysts at <url>.
Market participants have confirmed the trend. So, in Ingosstrakh, insurance for some car models has risen in price by 15-35% over the year, said Artem Yakovlev, director of the Casco domain of the company. The increase in prices for policies was also noted in IC Rosgosstrakh and RESO-Garantia.
The main reason remains the rise in the price of spare parts, and hence repairs, market representatives told Izvestia. If in 2024 the average cost of restoring a car was 160-180 thousand rubles, now it reaches 220-260 thousand rubles, said Artem Yakovlev.
Additional pressure is created by the cost of work in car service stations and the price of paint and varnish materials, but spare parts still account for the largest share of costs, said Alexander Terekhin, product manager of the retail insurance department of RESO-Garantia.
Optics and complex body elements — bumpers with sensors, headlights and other parts, as well as electronic components - have become more expensive in recent years, said Dmitry Smirnov, Deputy General Director of the Twenty-first Century IC. According to him, for a number of European, Japanese and American brands that have left the Russian market, the price of original spare parts has increased by one and a half to two times.
In some positions, the growth was particularly high. For example, the bumper for Skoda has increased in price by 73%, the Audi front radar by 54%, and some BMW parts by 32%, said independent economist Viktor Mangazeev.
Additional factors are logistics and the shortage of individual components. For European cars, deliveries often go through hubs in the UAE, which increases the delivery time and cost, especially amid the conflict in the Middle East. In addition, parallel imports do not always ensure stable availability of parts, explained Olga Koroleva, head of the underwriting department at the VSK Insurance House Casco.
Tariffs are also affected by general inflation, car prices and taxes, added Artem Martianov, Director of Product Analytics at Rosgosstrakh Voluntary Auto Insurance.
How car owners save on insurance
At the same time, the increase in the cost of hard hats did not lead to a decrease in demand for policies. On the contrary, compared to the same period last year, it increased by 35%, according to <url>. The used car insurance market has also increased, the All-Russian Union of Insurers (VSS) told Izvestia.
This is due to the fact that Russians do not want to repair themselves and may assume that the CTP payment limit of 400 thousand will not be enough to restore cars, experts noted. Nevertheless, the rising cost of the policy is already forcing some customers to look for cheaper protection options.
In Ingosstrakh, the number of contracts concluded with reduced coverage increased by 30-40% per year, said Artem Yakovlev. Such offers make it possible to reduce the cost of insurance by eliminating some of the risks or limiting the amount of compensation.
Savings under such programs can reach 70% relative to a full hard hat, Olga Koroleva noted. However, such a policy may not cover common situations, such as an accident caused by the driver himself, falling trees or glass damage, so before buying, you need to carefully study the list of insurance risks and exceptions, the expert added.
Another way to reduce the cost is a deductible, in which part of the costs in the event of an insured event is borne by the client. This option allows you to cover a wider range of risks and reduce the price of the policy, Dmitry Smirnov noted. However, in the event of an accident, a person will have to pay extra for repairs.
Will the hard hat get more expensive
Insurers have already included a significant part of the increased repair costs in the current tariffs, so a sharp jump in prices is not expected, says Artem Yakovlev.
VSK predicts a further increase in the cost of policies by about 11-12%, since in the second half of the year prices for parts may increase by another 8-15%, Olga Koroleva said.
First of all, the stabilization of the spare parts and logistics market can restrain the rise in prices. The development of supplies of high-quality analogues from friendly countries, the absence of sharp exchange rate fluctuations and the expansion of parallel imports can reduce the shortage of individual components, the expert believes.
In the longer term, the development of local component manufacturing can change the situation, as it will reduce dependence on imports and logistics, Viktor Mangazeev noted. An additional factor may be a reduction in the key rate. This will reduce the cost of borrowed funds for businesses and part of the costs of service companies, the expert added.
Insurers are also trying to make tariffs more flexible. The use of data on mileage, driving style, number of traffic violations and telematics allows you to more accurately assess the risk of a particular client and generate an individual policy cost for him.
In the meantime, car owners face a choice between the cost and the amount of protection. Car repairs already cost hundreds of thousands of rubles, so a complete waiver of insurance remains risky. However, if the price tag for a hard hat continues to rise, more and more drivers will turn to reduced policy options.
