The new James Bond: what is known about the search for an actor

The actor's popularity on social media will not be one of the main criteria when choosing a new performer for the role of James Bond. Nina Gold, the casting director, prefers to look for artists in theaters and drama schools, although her company's employees are also exploring digital platforms. In recent years, Hollywood studios have increasingly been paying attention to the size of an actor's audience on social media. It is assumed that a performer with millions of subscribers can independently attract viewers and promote the film.

However, Nina Gold stated that she does not feel such pressure from Amazon MGM Studios when selecting actors for the new James Bond film.

According to Gold, her company's employees browse social media in search of aspiring artists, but she prefers a more traditional approach. The casting director attends theater productions and graduation performances of drama schools, because there he can evaluate not only the candidate's appearance, but also his acting training.

The number of subscribers, therefore, will not be an automatic advantage. At the same time, Gold's statement does not mean that the studio is deliberately looking for an unknown performer: experience, professional training and the ability to lead a multi-year franchise will continue to play an important role.

Who are the candidates for the role of Bond

There is no official list of candidates yet. The studio confirmed only the fact of the beginning of the search and said that it would not comment on individual casting stages.

Foreign media reports have named Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Harris Dickinson, Callum Turner, Louis Partridge, and Jacob Elordi as possible contenders. However, neither the studio nor director Denis Villeneuve confirmed that any of them had auditioned or made the final list.

The Times points out that the presence of these actors on social media varies significantly. Partridge has several million subscribers, while Turner and Elordi do not have public pages. This allows the studio to show that digital popularity is not a prerequisite for participating in the casting.

Gold also said that agents had offered American artists for the role. The publication expects that the new Bond will still be played by a British actor, but the studio has not published any official requirements for the candidate's citizenship or origin.

Who's working on the new Bond movie

Denis Villeneuve, who directed Arrival, Blade Runner 2049, Dune and its sequel, will direct the next film. Amazon MGM Studios confirmed his appointment in June 2025.

Villeneuve called Bond an important part of his childhood memories and promised to preserve the traditions of the franchise, while opening the way for new stories. The director emphasized that he perceives working on the picture as a great responsibility.

The script is written by the creator of "Sharp Visors" Stephen Knight. Amy Pascal, who worked on the Spider-Man films, and David Heyman, who participated in the creation of the Harry Potter series and the first Barbie, have been appointed producers. Tanya Lapointe will be the executive producer.
