Installation concerns: demand for repair and construction tools is growing in Russia
Russians began to actively buy tools and equipment for the construction and repair of housing. On large trading platforms, sales of generators more than doubled, miter saws — by 3.7 times, and power tools — by 30%. According to experts, in six months, about 8 million units of small tools and up to 300 thousand units of more serious equipment were sold in the country. How much sales of construction and repair tools have increased
Sellers told Izvestia about the growing demand for machinery and tools for construction and repair. In many categories, sales increased significantly in the first half of the year compared to the same period in 2025. For example, sales of generators at Wildberries increased by almost 150% year-on-year, and concrete mixers by 120%, RWB reported. The demand for miter saws increased by 270% (3.7 times), and for workbenches — by 80%. Screwdrivers, welding machines, grinders, wrenches, punchers, compressors and spray guns have become the most in demand among hand tools — organic growth of up to 28% has been recorded in these categories, the company added.
RWB attributes this dynamic to the fact that small construction teams, private craftsmen, and service providers are increasingly purchasing equipment through marketplaces. An additional factor was the growth of individual housing construction (IHS).
— In the period from May to July 2026, we note an increase in trade turnover in a number of categories relative to the same period in 2025. The most noticeable changes occurred in construction goods, interior decoration, garden assortment and home furniture," Natalia Novikova, Commercial Director of Leman PRO Commodity Market Development, told Izvestia.
Construction equipment was in the greatest demand from private buyers: its sales in Russia increased by 56%, the press service of the online hypermarket " <url>" told Izvestia. The most noticeable dynamics was recorded in Kazan — an increase of 111%, in Krasnodar — 96%, St. Petersburg - 78%, Omsk — 75% and Samara — 74%, the company said.
Sales of power and construction equipment increased by 44%, water heating and heating equipment — by 27%, electrical equipment — by 26%, Petrovich reported.
Interest in repair products has consistently increased throughout the first half of the year, increasing from month to month, M.Video told Izvestia. Already in February, sales of the category were about 30% higher than in January, in March the growth reached 53%, and in April — 66%. The peak demand occurred in May, when sales exceeded January figures by 86%. Accessories for power tools and welding equipment showed the greatest dynamics — their sales increased by 113% and 104%, respectively, the company noted.
In the category of "hand—to-hand" goods, the demand for devices for connecting, wiring and repairing power grids increased most noticeably - by 37%, said Fariz Kerimov, senior project manager of the Construction and Furniture business area at Avito. Sales of measuring instruments — tape measures, levels, rangefinders, laser levellers and other measuring devices — increased by 8% compared to last year. Demand for used hand tools increased by 7%, he added.
According to expert estimates, up to 15 million units of mass—produced power tools are sold annually in Russia - screwdrivers, drills, grinders, saws and wrenches, Anastasia Bezrukova, a leading expert at the Center for Strategic Support of Domestic Technologies, told Izvestia. According to her, the fastest growing categories of equipment are not related to small household repairs, but to full-fledged independent construction and furnishing of country houses.
Why is the demand for tools increasing?
The demand for private homes in Russia has increased almost 1.5 times this year compared to the same period in 2025, market participants told Izvestia. The rural segment is overtaking the urban segment in terms of activity dynamics, the Arborestate agency noted. The sales volume was 46% higher than in the same period last year, the company added.
— Customers often approach repairs in stages. They start with basic work, then move on to finishing, updating individual areas, or buying furniture. It becomes more important for them to understand the project budget in advance, choose solutions for a specific task and avoid unnecessary expenses," said Natalia Novikova.
The services of builders and repairmen have significantly increased in price — their cost has increased by about 25% over the year. Therefore, homeowners are increasingly doing some of the work themselves, trying to reduce the cost of attracting specialists, said Denis Kuskov, CEO of TelecomDaily. At the same time, according to him, Russians often invest funds that could previously have been used for more expensive trips or car purchases in housing repairs and improvements. If the demand for suburban real estate continues, the high growth rates in the construction machinery and tools market may also continue, the expert concluded.
