- "Very strange things: Stories from the 85th": plot, connection with the series, premiere date
Netflix has announced the animated series "Stranger Things: Stories from '85." The premiere of 10 episodes will take place on April 23. All the details are in the Izvestia article.
The plot and chronology of "Very strange things: Stories from the 85th"
The animated show takes place in Hawkins in the winter of 1985. The plot is set chronologically between the second and third seasons of the main series. In the story, the main characters — Eleven, Mike, Will, Dustin, Lucas and Max — return to normal life, playing board games and spending time with friends, until the city is faced with a new paranormal threat.
A new member will appear in the group of characters — a girl named Nikki, who is described as a strong-willed heroine with a mohawk. The team will have to solve the mystery hidden under the ice and snow, and fight the monsters that terrorize Hawkins.
Eric Robles, known for his work on "Glitch Techno" and "The Terrible Adventures of Billy and Mandy", became the screenwriter and executive producer of the project. The Duffer brothers, creators of the original series "Stranger Things," serve as executive producers of the animated film. The animation was done by Flying Bark Studio in collaboration with Upside Down Pictures and 21 Laps.
"Very strange things": what is the main story about
The main series takes place in Hawkins, Indiana. The plot begins in November 1983 with the mysterious disappearance of a boy named Will Byers, played by Noah Schnapp. This event reveals the secrets of local government experiments conducted at the national laboratory and the existence of a parallel dimension.
At the center of the story is a group of friends led by Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown), a girl with psychokinetic abilities. Other key characters include Police Sheriff Jim Hopper (Davaid Scarbor), missing Will's mother Joyce Byers (Winona Ryder), and teenagers Mike (Finn Wolfhard), Dustin (Gaten Matarazzo), and Lucas (Caleb McLaughlin). Eventually, Max Mayfield (Sadie Sink) joins them.
The central theme of the project is the struggle of the city's inhabitants with monsters from the Inside Out — a dark and decaying world that mirrors reality. The series combines elements of horror and nostalgia for the culture of the 80s, paying homage to the works of Stephen King, Steven Spielberg and John Carpenter.
Over the course of five seasons, the characters have faced various opponents from a parallel dimension. Among the main antagonists are Demogorgon, the Torturer of Reason and Vecna. The fifth season was the final for the project and summed up the heroes' long-term confrontation with the forces of evil, finally revealing the secrets of the Hawkins Laboratory and the Inside.
A new antagonist and atmosphere
In the new series, viewers will see monsters resembling sharks. According to Robles, the creation of the creatures was influenced by the movie "Jaws," and the threat itself comes from a mixture of Inside-out matter and the scientific developments of the city's laboratory. He noted that something terrifying is hiding under the snow, capable of attacking at any moment.
"It's as if science from the Hawkins laboratory has met matter from the Inside out. When you combine them, you get exactly the kind of creatures that live in our world. There's something lurking under all that snow, and you never know where this creature will come out and grab you," Robles said.
Voice actors and premiere
New actors took part in the dubbing, as the main cast members in the original series have matured significantly. Robles explained that in order to preserve the childish energy of the characters, it was important to attract young artists whose voices correspond to the age of the characters in 1985.
"Netflix really believes in this series. The Duffer brothers were not only very enthusiastic, but also strongly supported this series. They were involved in this case to make sure that we continue our adventures and return to the time when we were just spending time with our best friends," Robles emphasized.
The full-fledged release of the project on the Netflix streaming platform is scheduled for April 23.
On March 24, Medialogia presented on its website a Russian series rating consisting of the 100 most popular projects of the past year. The South Korean thriller "The Squid Game" took the first place with 42,861 points, the second place was taken by the American science fiction series "Stranger Things" (26,572 points), and the third place was taken by the Russian detective "Sled" (20,361 points).
