At the annual CinemaCon Forum in Las Vegas, Warner Bros. She showed an extended scene from the superhero movie "Supergirl: The Woman of Tomorrow" starring Millie Elcock — a dynamic space battle with pirates and robots to the soundtrack of the British rock band Wolf Alice. All the details are in the Izvestia article.

"Supergirl" at CinemaCon 2026: what was shown

Director Craig Gillespie, stars Millie Alcock and Jason Momoa took to the stage along with DC Studios co-chairman Peter Safran to present an extended scene from the film. The event took place on April 15 as part of the annual CinemaCon Forum, an industry convention for cinema owners and Hollywood studios, organized by Cinema United from April 13 to 16 at Caesars Palace.

The fragment shown opens with a battered interplanetary bus plying the far world. Inside is a motley crowd of creatures from all corners of the galaxy. Kara Zor-El, played by Alcock, keeps to herself while the transport shakes over potholes. She offers a passenger with tentacles on his face a piece of gum and asks him not to smoke. Then he notices that young Ruthie (Eve Ridley) is being bullied by a large alien, shouts back at him and explains that she inadvertently insulted him according to the laws of his culture.

Then a gang of space pirates suddenly breaks on board and turns an ordinary flight into a tense standoff. Kara engages in battle with the pirates using their own teleportation devices in a dynamic scene to the tune of Wolf Alice's "Smile". She can't get the better of the space bandits, so she plans to put on a spacesuit and get closer to the Sun to regain her strength. Before she has time, she is thrown out through the airlock, which inadvertently pushes her towards the Sun and feeds her with energy, after which a truly epic battle begins.

Kara turns a laser cannon shot from an enemy ship into his own advantage: he uses the debris to fly closer to the Sun and recharge, and then ignites the enemy's engines with a heat vision strike while the stunned bus passengers look at what is happening.

According to the Debussingfilm portal, "Millie Alcock is great, she convincingly conveys the cool and at the same time ironic character of the character." The Film Threat publication called the film the emotional center of the entire DC presentation at CinemaCon. When Alcock was asked what she would remember most from these shootings, the actress replied simply: "Everything." She also reflected on what it means to become the first Supergirl that many young viewers will get to know.

Who is Kara Zor-El and how does she differ from Superman?

Supergirl, aka Kara Zor-El, is Clark Kent's cousin, that is, Superman. Both come from the planet Krypton, but their childhoods developed in fundamentally different ways.

"We see the difference between Superman, who was sent to Earth as a baby and raised by loving parents, and Supergirl, who grew up on a piece of Krypton and watched everyone around her die for the first 14 years of her life," James Gunn explained earlier.

Kara Zor-El celebrates her birthday by traveling the galaxy with her dog Krypton. Along the way, she meets a young Ruthie Mary Knoll and experiences a tragedy that sends her on a "deadly quest for revenge." Gunn wanted to distance himself from the more optimistic image of the character that Melissa Benoit created in the Supergirl series (2015-2021). According to scriptwriter Ana Nogueira, quoted by Insight Trends, she could never accept the "sunny" version of Kara.

Millie Alcock: Who will play Supergirl

Amelia May Alcock was born on April 11, 2000 and grew up in the Petersham area of Sydney. She became internationally famous for her role as the young princess Rhaenyra Targaryen in the HBO fantasy series House of the Dragon, a prequel to Game of Thrones. For this work, Alcock received a nomination for the Critics' Choice Television Award in the Best Supporting Actress in a Drama Series category.

Gunn stated that Alcock embodies the version of Kara that King, Evli and Nogueira conceived — a year before the casting, he mentioned her name in a conversation with Safran after watching House of the Dragon. According to him, she has the "sharpness, grace and authenticity" necessary for the role. James Gunn described Alcock's casting as "the best casting decision of my entire career."

The director praised her dedication to the role: according to him, Alcock spent an hour in the training room every morning before filming to master the tricks. In addition, she learned five fictional languages — in the scene shown, Kara communicates with one creature through clicking sounds, which became a reason for laughter in the audience. The director was especially impressed that Alcock handled the dramatic scenes with her parents in Kryptonian.

The cast and villains of "Supergirl"

In addition to Alcock, the film stars Matthias Schoenaerts as the main villain of the Cream of the Yellow Hills, Eve Ridley as the alien Ruthie Mary Knoll, David Krumholz and Emily Beacham as Kara's parents, and Jason Momoa as the intergalactic bounty hunter Lobo.

David Koreansvet, who played Superman in the 2025 film, will appear here: Alcock starred with him in the very first days of filming in an episode in the Kryptonian language. A voice cameo by Seth Rogen is also reported.
