Russia has created a microscope with record resolution
Russia has created the first domestic scanning microscope with a resolution of up to 3 nm. This scale allows you to see the structure of materials down to individual molecules. The device was presented at the "Sirius" federal territory within the framework of the Microelectronics Forum, which began work on September 28.
"In a scanning microscope, an enlarged image is formed by scanning the sample surface line-by-line (i.e., with a raster) with a focused electron beam. It sequentially passes over the surface of the material, and a special detector collects the reflected electrons. ""These signals form the final picture,"" explained Yulia Sukhoroslova, General Director of Nanotronics JSC ("Element" Group of Companies).
According to her, only an experimental sample has been made now. It serves as a stand for testing technical solutions. The production version is scheduled for 2027. The share of Russian components in it will be about 90%. As the specialist explained, in comparison with foreign analogues in the domestic device, the possibility of choosing the cathode material (electron source) is realized.
This component belongs to the consumables. For example, users can use a more accurate, but expensive and difficult to operate lanthanum cathode or a relatively cheaper tungsten cathode. Such components are being developed in our country. Russian engineers also intend to implement a special acceleration system in the serial product, which, unlike imported devices, will allow the device to operate at lower voltages. This will make it possible to destroy materials less during research.
The microscope is designed to study objects at the micro level in various fields. For example, materials scientists will be able to use it to check the structure of alloys and coating defects, biologists will be able to examine biological tissues, cells and unicellular organisms, and engineers will be able to test chips and microcircuits.
"Aerospace Antenna Systems" company has introduced a new microcomputer that combines the functions of a computing module for artificial intelligence and a flight controller. The device is designed for use in drones, ground robots and other autonomous systems, allowing data processing on board.
