In Russia, they created a computer simulator in which the player simultaneously controls what is happening on the screen with two mice. The developers believe that such mechanics allow you to train both hemispheres of the brain, coordination and cognitive abilities. The "Izvestia" correspondent was one of the first to test the game. What tasks the educational and entertainment project sets and what difficulties its creators faced are described in the "Izvestia" material.

Learning in a playful way

The main feature of the "Ambidextrous" simulator is the control of two mice at once. The program recognizes the devices and allows you to adjust the sensitivity of each mouse separately. Then the game begins, in which both hands must simultaneously react to what is happening on the screen.

A correspondent of "Izvestia" tested the simulator. Instead of the usual exercises, the developers offer a story game. In one scenario, the user becomes the owner of a suit similar to the armor of Iron Man, and travels from Earth to the Moon. Along the way, you need to dodge birds, planes, the ISS and space debris. The final task is to get to the moon and plant a flag there.

The program records the player's actions. The speed and accuracy of each click are taken into account in the statistics, and after completing the round, the user can review the results and determine which parameters need improvement.

— Our project is a simulator that develops both hemispheres of the brain, — said its creator Alexey Doroshev.

The simulator was developed by the Moscow-based "Svoi Igry" team. The project became the winner of the face-to-face stage of "Neurogames", in which the finalist teams had to create working prototypes of video games using artificial intelligence in eight hours. In total, young specialists from 65 regions of Russia, as well as from Kazakhstan, Spain, Mexico and South Africa, have registered to participate. Artificial intelligence helped the team meet the allotted time.

According to the authors, when creating "Ambidextrous", artificial intelligence technologies were used — with their help, developers created code, edited content, prepared visual materials and elements of the game narrative. At the same time, statements about the simulator's ability to improve cognitive skills still remain the position of the developers. The editors did not provide independent medical or neurobiological studies confirming the effectiveness of the simulator.

From game to competition

The creators of "Ambidextra" expect to further expand the audience of the project. First of all, we are talking about children and teenagers: the team wants to combine their usual game format with the training of certain skills. The authors are also considering the possibility of using the simulator for competitions. It is assumed that players will be able to compare results, track their own dynamics and participate in tournaments.

A separate area is the application of the project in educational and rehabilitation scenarios. However, to do this, the developers will have to confirm that the game mechanics really have a measurable effect, and not only creates additional stress on both hands.

In "Russia — the land of opportunities", they consider the direction of neuro-gaming to be promising. Andrey Betin, CEO of the Presidential Platform and rector of the "Senezh" Management Workshop, noted that such projects can be used in education, corporate training and rehabilitation.

— Neuro games are not fashion or entertainment. This is the next step in human development. Technology takes over the routine and the brain's ability to work at full capacity becomes the main resource — to keep focus, switch, and find non—standard solutions," he said.

However, gaming expert Alexander Semenov believes that it is too early to talk about a full-fledged product, and even more so about its esports potential.

— It is impossible to create a complete product in eight hours — during this time you can only make a prototype that demonstrates the idea. It's impossible to bring such a game even to the MVP level. The authors should work out all aspects of the project, including the schedule, before talking about its large—scale integration into the country's educational systems," he said.

So far, "Ambidextrous" remains a prototype created in less than a day. The next step for the team will be to test whether the unusual mechanics really help improve measurable skills, as well as turning the game into a product for use at home, in schools, or at competitions.
