- The Russian Foreign Ministry announced the exhaustion of the EU levers of sanctions pressure on Russia
The European Union (EU) countries have exhausted the possibilities of sanctions pressure on Russia and are facing growing difficulties in agreeing on new restrictions. This was announced on November 8 by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Alexander Pankin.
"The fact that the measures taken on October 12 against our country were not officially called the next, 22nd sanctions package, just confirms this trend," the diplomat said in an interview with TASS.
According to Pankin, in the current circumstances, the Council of the European Union has only been able to expand the lists of individuals and legal entities subject to restrictions. The Russian Deputy Foreign Minister regarded the situation as evidence of the structural impotence of the European bureaucracy. However, even after exhausting the tools of pressure on Moscow, Brussels continues its sanctions policy, as it is not ready to abandon its previous course.
On October 27, Russian President Vladimir Putin noted that gas exporting countries should consider ending all current conflicts and lifting sanctions. Putin noted that sanctions are usually used as an instrument of unfair competition, and as a result, this has serious consequences for everyone, primarily for those who impose them.
