- The Interior Ministry warned about the use of fake banking applications by fraudsters
Fraudsters began to gain remote access to Russians' phones using fake banking applications that are installed when clicking on links offering to apply for a loan. This became known on November 8 from the database of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia, which was reviewed by TASS.
According to the agency, the attackers post ads on the Internet promising to help even citizens with a bad credit history get a loan. After clicking on the specified link to the user's device, a program simulating a banking application automatically starts to be installed.
Then instructions appear on the screen, prompting you to fill out a form and specify your bank card details. At the same time, the installed software provides scammers with the opportunity to remotely control the victim's phone.
Having gained access to the device and personal data, fraudsters can independently issue debt obligations in the name of the victim.
The press service of the Moshelovka platform of the Popular Front reported on November 7 that fraudsters began to deceive the owners of private homes, offering them to check roofs and drains before the start of the winter season at a reduced cost. According to experts, the attackers require an advance payment allegedly to rent special equipment or purchase necessary materials. After receiving the money, they block communication with customers and disappear.
