The US Treasury Department has effectively restricted the access of the MEXC Global cryptocurrency exchange to the American financial system due to alleged operations to circumvent sanctions. This was announced on November 7 on the website of the Office for Combating Financial Crimes (FinCEN) of the US Treasury.

According to the agency, from May 2021 to May 2026, at least $16 billion of suspicious transactions passed through the platform.

The American authorities associate these operations with circumvention of sanctions restrictions, cybercrime and other types of illegal activities. At the end of October, the MEXC cryptocurrency exchange also announced the termination of its service to users from Russia.

On October 31, the US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) blamed the DPRK authorities for a large-scale cyberattack on the Binance crypto exchange. At the same time, the FBI did not provide any evidence of North Korea's involvement in the attack. According to American investigators, the hacker group TraderTraitor is behind the attack. On October 30, Binance committed to fully compensate for losses incurred as a result of unauthorized withdrawal of funds from the platform. The incident affected assets worth about $6.3 billion. It was reported that the exchange's specialists are investigating the circumstances of the hack.
