Russians warned against uploading passport photos to neural networks
Uploading documents with personal data to neural networks or free online converters carries serious security risks, as files can be stored on third-party servers indefinitely. This was announced on November 7 by the product owner at Content AI, Alyona Ivlicheva.
"I would strongly discourage transmitting information to neural networks, the disclosure of which could harm you or your company. In July, it was reported about the dismissal of the sales director of the Moscow engineering company EnergoProf: an employee was accused of disclosing trade secrets, including through an [AI service] DeepSeek, she challenged the dismissal, but the court found it lawful," she explained in an interview with the newspaper.Ru».
According to her, when using popular tools to modify PDF files or extract data from them, the originals are usually transferred to the service's server. The fate of the information depends on the policy of a particular platform: some systems provide for automatic deletion, but others can store files indefinitely. A similar situation exists with artificial intelligence, which needs to obtain the original contract or a reference to analyze the text.
The expert noted that the transfer of working documents or correspondence to third-party aggregators and neural networks can legally threaten employees with fines or dismissal under the article. Ivlicheva also warned that simply covering sensitive data with black rectangles in a PDF editor is often useless. Such plates often only visually hide the text, but do not delete it from the file itself, which allows you to extract information.
For safe operation, the expert recommends using domestic programs that process files locally on the user's computer without sending them to external servers. This allows you to use the capabilities of neural networks inside a corporate or home network.
Alexander Khaminsky, a lawyer and head of the Law Enforcement Center in Moscow and the Moscow Region, told Izvestia on September 24 that mistakes when working with AI services can lead to legal consequences for companies and employees. An employee can upload a client database, contracts, job applicants' resumes, correspondence from CRM, or other documents containing full names, phone numbers, addresses, and other information to the neural network, and the company may face questions about compliance with personal data processing and protection requirements.
