The father of the Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle, Thomas Markle Sr., was arrested by the FBI at a nursing home in Lakeland, Florida, on suspicion of possession of child pornography. This was reported on November 6 by the Daily Mail newspaper.

"Federal agents broke into the Maravida Nursing home in Lakeland, Florida, after huge stocks of obscene materials were discovered in recent weeks at Markle—related locations in the Philippines and Mexico," the newspaper writes.

In particular, shortly before the arrest, Mexican law enforcement officers searched a warehouse in Rosarito, which Markle rented in 2017. According to the Daily Mail, a computer, USB drives, videotapes, magazines and other materials were found there. Among the discovered were photographs with images of sexual abuse of children. In addition, investigators seized hard drives and other electronic media, the contents of which have yet to be examined.

Mexican National Guard officers, computer forensics experts, and representatives of the Baja California State Prosecutor's Office participated in the search. The court order allowed the search for materials with images of sexual abuse of children, as well as evidence of possible human trafficking under aggravating circumstances. After the search, the premises were sealed, and the discovered items were seized.

In parallel, the investigation continues in the Philippines, where Markle lived before moving to the United States in early 2026. According to the newspaper, his son Thomas Markle Jr. discovered several boxes of materials containing images of child sexual abuse in his father's former home in Cebu City. The man reported the discovery to law enforcement agencies and gave them information about the possible location of other similar materials.

"I have never had sexual contact with anyone under the age of 18," Markle Sr. told the Daily Mail.

The father of the Duchess of Sussex denies the charges and calls the reports about the found materials a lie. His daughter had previously stated that she was deeply concerned about what had happened and expressed support for the children who might have suffered.

The Washington Post reported on August 1 that a 37-year-old man from Virginia was detained in the United States, who is accused of abducting a 15-year-old schoolgirl and keeping her in a house for four years. According to the investigation, Owen Lars Anderson took the girl to his house in Blacksburg, where she had been staying all this time. She is now 19 years old, and the police managed to find her in May.
