- Moscow will take into account the risks of Helsinki's cooperation with Paris on nuclear deterrence
Russia will continue to monitor any unfriendly steps on the part of Finland against the background of Helsinki's support for Paris' nuclear deterrence initiative. This was announced on November 5 by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova.
The diplomat pointed out that Moscow considers Helsinki's actions to be a reckless gamble by the Finnish authorities, which harms both the national security of this country and the entire region. What is happening naturally causes concern to the Russian Federation.
"Helsinki is rapidly becoming militarized. The world is increasing its military potential to the point of creating prerequisites for replacing other people's weapons of mass destruction on its territory," Zakharova said during a briefing.
Depending on the specific measures implemented, Russia intends to respond to the actions of its neighbors accordingly.
On October 28, the Russian Embassy in France indicated that the involvement of non-nuclear countries in military planning and exercises within the framework of the French "advanced nuclear deterrence" initiative undermines efforts to strengthen the global nuclear weapons control system. It is known that 10 countries have already joined the proposal: Belgium, Great Britain, Germany, Greece, Denmark, Norway, Poland, the Netherlands, Finland and Sweden.
Zakharova, against the background of the popularization by Paris of the initiative to spread the "nuclear umbrella" on August 5, called on European countries to move away from "nuclear fantasies" to solve their existing problems. She called the relevant "philosophizing" suicidal and drew attention to the fact that they are carried out within the framework of the militarization of Europe.
