- Meloni called for increased coordination of the European Union in connection with the negotiations on Ukraine
The EU's approach to negotiations on the settlement of the conflict in Ukraine is incorrect and uncoordinated. This was stated by Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni in a letter to the President of the European Council, Antonio Costa, the text of which was studied by Bloomberg.
"I am convinced that we all understand how, by creating an image of Europe acting uncoordinated, we are simply playing into the hands of those who want to continue this conflict. I consider this unacceptable, given that human lives and the future of our security are at stake," the Italian prime minister wrote.
According to Meloni, the EU's actions create the impression of "complete confusion", and the participation of many negotiators and the use of different formats undermine confidence in the union. She suggested discussing at an informal meeting of leaders in Dublin next week how Europe can present a united front on Ukraine, stressing that this issue "can no longer be postponed."
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on November 1 that Europe was approaching relations with Russia with the idea of inflicting a strategic defeat on the country, so negotiations with the Europeans were impossible. He explained the absence of Europe at the negotiating table on Ukraine, mentioning calls to Russian President Vladimir Putin from Finnish President Alexander Stubb and Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gare Stere.
On October 28, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova noted that the discussions about the negotiator that have been going on in the European Union for several years have become caricatured and anecdotal, as the union still cannot decide "who will go where." She reiterated that Moscow does not care about the identity of a potential negotiator on the settlement of the Ukrainian conflict, as it pays more attention to the position from which he will come to the conversation.
