A court in Ukraine ordered Kovalsky to open a criminal case against Arahamia.
The Supreme Anti-Corruption Court of Ukraine (HACC) has ordered Acting Prosecutor General Anton Kovalsky to open a case against the head of the Servant of the People faction, David Arahamia. This was announced on November 4 by the press service of the Anti-Corruption Center.
"WAX instructed Acting Prosecutor General Kovalsky to open a case against Arahamia," the Telegram channel said in a statement.
It is specified that on October 19, the organization AntAC (Anti-Corruption Action Center) submitted a statement on the likely distribution of "envelopes" of Arachamy among deputies for voting. Kovalsky said that the National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU) is already conducting an investigation, and forwarded the application there. However, only the Prosecutor General can open a case against a people's deputy. NABU has confirmed that the Bureau cannot investigate Arachamia without registration.
Investigating judge Markian Halabala granted AntAC's complaint about Kowalski's inaction. Now he must add information about a possible crime by the head of the Servant of the People faction to the Unified Register of Preliminary Investigations.
On November 4, the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) dismissed two high-ranking employees who became involved in the NABU investigation. It was clarified that the SBU provides full support and facilitates all necessary procedural actions in these criminal proceedings.
Earlier, NABU officers detained General Sergei Duka, who holds the post of first deputy head of the Department for the Protection of National Statehood of the SBU. The detention of a high-ranking security official took place against the background of the NABU's disclosure of information about the exposure of a large-scale criminal organization.
