Swedish conductor Herbert Blomstedt, one of the greatest representatives of world academic music of his generation, has died at the age of 100. This was reported on November 4 by the KünstlerSekretariat am Gasteig agency.

"It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Herbert Blomstedt, one of the outstanding conductors of our time. He died peacefully on November 4, 2026, surrounded by his family, at his home in Gothenburg (Sweden)," the text says.

During his long career, Blomstedt has gained recognition due to his deep respect for the composer's idea, impeccable knowledge of scores and outstanding musicality. The maestro's main aspiration has always been to serve music.

It is clarified that Blomstedt often talked about the desire to conduct until his 100th birthday and even longer. However, recently, his health condition did not allow him to continue performing, which is why he was forced to cancel his scheduled concerts.
