Russia continues to propose moving the United Nations headquarters to Sochi, pointing to numerous violations by the United States as the organization's host country. This was announced on November 4 by Kirill Logvinov, Director of the Department of International Organizations at the Russian Foreign Ministry.

"The main thing in this fundamental issue is to ensure that the host country complies with its international obligations. However, the proposal voiced by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Sergey Lavrov in New York a year ago to consider moving the headquarters to Sochi remains in force," the diplomat said.

Logvinov stressed that the postponement is possible, but at this stage there is no prospect of putting forward a corresponding initiative in New York. He explained that the new location must meet numerous parameters, from infrastructure development and transport accessibility to security. In addition, the move will require huge financial costs, which hardly anyone will go for in the current conditions.

On September 27, 2025, Lavrov reported that during Joseph Stalin's negotiations with the leaders of the United States and Great Britain on the creation of the United Nations, the Soviet side proposed to make the organization's headquarters in Sochi. According to him, the Russian city has proven its ability to host major events. Lavrov clarified that if such a decision is made, the infrastructure is already ready there.
