The decision of the Norwegian Ice Hockey Federation to boycott matches against the Russian national teams at the World Championships was unexpected, since such measures are rarely used in Norwegian sports. This was announced on November 3 by Norwegian sports journalist Jan Petter Saltvedt.

"Now I have a strong feeling that the World Cup with Russia's participation will not take place in May. At least in Germany. This is a very unusual reaction for Norway. Boycotts are almost never used in Norwegian sports," the RIA Novosti journalist said.

According to him, the decision to admit Russia caused strong emotions in Norway. Saltvedt noted that it would be a pity if the strongest Norwegian national team in history refused to participate in such an important match.

On October 30, the Court of Arbitration for Sport ordered the International Ice Hockey Federation to allow Russian national teams to participate in international competitions. Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Finland and Latvia have announced their intention to boycott the games against the Russian national team at the World Cup in 2027. In addition, in Germany, where the World Cup is to be held, they allowed the possibility of refusing to hold competitions.
