The girl died after an autumn shift at the Gubin children's camp in Bugulma in Tatarstan. According to preliminary medical reports, the cause was a lightning-fast form of meningococcal infection. All the details are in the Izvestia article.

The circumstances of the deterioration of the schoolgirl's condition

The autumn shift at the camp began on October 29. A total of 195 children went there. On the evening of November 1, the pupil went to the medical center complaining of a headache. Upon examination, she was found to have a temperature of 39.4 degrees. The parents took their daughter home.

The next day, the schoolgirl's condition deteriorated sharply. The girl was taken to the infectious diseases department of Bugulma Children's Hospital, then urgently transferred to the intensive care unit of the Leninogorsk Central district hospital.

An intensive care specialist from the Republican Children's Clinical Hospital was airlifted from Kazan to provide assistance. Doctors performed intensive therapy, including artificial ventilation and intensive care measures. However, the child could not be saved. According to preliminary data, the girl had a lightning—fast form of meningococcal infection, meningococcemia and Waterhouse-Friederiksen syndrome.

Closing of the camp

After the incident, all participants of the autumn shift were taken under medical supervision. According to the Bugulma district administration, the children and camp staff are under the supervision of specialists. At the time of publication, the other students had no complaints about their well-being or fever.

All the children have been sent home, and comprehensive sanitation is being carried out at the camp. Children who were in direct contact with the sick schoolgirl began to be vaccinated against meningococcal infection. The Gubin camp itself was temporarily quarantined.

The Investigative Department (SU) of the Investigative Committee (IC) in Tatarstan has opened a criminal case under Article 109 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Causing death by negligence"). The investigators are carrying out the necessary measures, appointing examinations and interrogating witnesses to establish all the circumstances of the incident.

The authorities of Bugulma district will provide assistance to the family of the deceased

The head of Bugulma district, Damir Fattakhov, said that the local administration would provide the family of the deceased girl with all necessary assistance. According to him, the authorities are also in touch with the parents of the other children who were vacationing at the camp. Fattakhov stressed that the main thing now is the health and safety of minors, and urged to refrain from spreading unverified information about the incident.
