An Indian citizen was killed and two other people were injured when two helicopters collided near Mount Everest in Nepal. This was reported on November 3 by The Kathmandu Post newspaper with reference to the country's civil aviation authority.

According to the agency, the deceased was Vasant Kumar Balaramudu, who was on board a Fishtail Air helicopter. Shailesh Krishna Patel, a New Zealand citizen of Indian origin, and Rabindra Pradhan, the pilot of the aircraft, were injured. Both were airlifted to Nepal Mediciti Hospital in Kathmandu.

The incident occurred at about 08:12 local time at the helipad in Ferich, located in the Solukhumbu area at an altitude of approximately 4,371 m. This place is popular among tourists and climbers heading to Mount Everest.

The video of the incident shows how the Fishtail Air helicopter is rapidly descending, despite warnings from ground staff. During the landing approach, he collided with an Air Dynasty helicopter approaching the site from the opposite direction. As a result, the rotor blades of the Air Dynasty struck the windows of the passenger cabin of the second helicopter. At the time of the collision, both aircraft were at an altitude of about 2-3 m above the ground.

The causes of the incident are being determined. Mukesh Dangol, Director General of the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal, said that, according to preliminary information, the collision could have occurred due to a breakdown in communication between the pilots. He explained that the area is outside the control tower area of Lukla Airport, so the crews are forced to coordinate actions directly.

On October 24, Reuters reported that two Philippine Air Force training aircraft crashed during a training flight. Four pilots were killed in the crash.
