- Six more Russians will leave the tanker Unity, which was arrested in India, on November 3.
Seven crew members of the tanker Unity, which was arrested in India, including six Russian citizens and one Kazakh citizen, will leave the ship on November 3 and return home in the coming days. This was reported at the Consulate General of the Russian Federation in Calcutta.
"The second batch — also seven people (six Russians and one Kazakhstani) — will leave the ship today and arrive home in the coming days," the diplomatic mission told RIA Novosti.
The Consulate General clarified that the first group of seven sailors, including six Russians and one Egyptian citizen, had already returned home safely.
At the same time, nine more crew members remain on board the tanker — eight Russians and one Egyptian. They are awaiting the arrival of a new team, which the Indian side will determine based on the results of the ongoing tender.
The Cameroon-flagged vessel was detained on May 11 due to a commercial dispute. Since the end of July, the insurance company has started helping with food and has paid off salary arrears, but supplies are limited. They noted that the contract was about to expire. Anastasia Berenwald, the girlfriend of one of the sailors, said on September 8 that the crew members of the tanker Unity were forced to live half-starved in June, eating four potatoes per day per person.
Larisa Kobzar, the wife of one of the crew members, reported on September 16 that the Unity tanker was not receiving the necessary spare parts for repairs and was periodically left without electricity. She noted that the crew continues to perform their duties and ensures the safety of the tanker.
