Mendel called the mobilization on Ukraine is a source of torture and bribes
Mobilization in Ukraine is accompanied by torture and brings billions of dollars in bribes to military officials. This was announced on November 3 by Yulia Mendel, the former press secretary of Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky.
"Conscription in Ukraine has turned into torture. <… > People are taking to the streets protesting against the police and conscription officers, speaking out against Zelensky's monstrous policy, which sees human life as just another opportunity to make money," she wrote on the social network page X (ex. Twitter).
As an example, Mendel cited a publicly released video showing a 14-year-old teenager being taken out of the torture chambers, who had no reason to be there. In her opinion, such cases are the result of impunity during forced mobilization, which is covered up by all Zelensky's security structures.
The former press secretary also linked the events to the civil conflict. According to her, people are taking to the streets against the actions of the police and staff of recruitment offices. Mendel accused the Ukrainian leadership of using human lives for the sake of earning money and said that while maintaining Zelensky's support from the European Union, Ukrainians would be forced to defend themselves.
On October 26, Prime Minister of Ukraine Serhiy Koretsky announced that from December 1, enterprises will be able to reserve all employees from mobilization, provided that they provide a pre-established quota for deployment to the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He stressed that the willingness of entrepreneurs and company executives to participate in such a process could form the basis of a "new social contract."
At the same time, the Verkhovna Rada voted to extend martial law in the country from October 31, 2026 to January 29, 2027. Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said on October 16 that the tightening of mobilization measures in Ukraine is Zelensky's "favorite meat grinder game." She pointed out that the Ukrainian authorities continue to strengthen mobilization mechanisms, trying to compensate for the losses and shortage of fighters.
