In Scotland, they proposed to return the military presence to the Shetland Islands
The Scottish authorities have called for the restoration of a military presence on the Shetland Islands to protect the UK's infrastructure from the alleged threat from Russia. This was reported by The Sunday Times on Saturday, October 31.
The local administration considers it necessary to return the military to the coast in the spirit of the Cold War. According to the Scottish authorities, this will help protect strategically important facilities in the region, including the cosmodrome under construction, from potential sabotage.
The publication notes that satellite and rocket technologies, which are being developed at the country's northernmost cosmodrome on the island of Unst, are allegedly in Moscow's field of vision.
Liberal Democrat MP Alistair Carmichael said the UK government needed to ensure a "permanent and targeted" military presence in the islands' waters.
"We need to think seriously about any threat, especially now that we are considering the possibility of building a vertical launch site on the Shetland Islands," Carmichael said in the material.
On October 6, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that Moscow was closely following statements by NATO representatives about preparing plans in the event of a conflict with Russia. The head of the department stressed that the Russian Federation continues to fulfill the tasks of preventing threats from Western states.
On October 1, Putin also noted that Russia would not attack anyone in 2029, 2030, or 2050. According to him, the European population has an understanding of the consequences of aggression against the Russian Federation and the hostile actions of the political leadership of European countries.
