Dmitriev linked high energy prices in the EU to the unrest in Germany
High energy prices in the European Union, caused by the abandonment of Russian gas, led to riots and looting in Germany. This opinion was expressed on Sunday, November 1, by Kirill Dmitriev, head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF), Special Representative of the President of the Russian Federation for investment and economic cooperation with foreign countries.
"As expected, the EU's high energy prices due to the irresponsible abandonment of Russian gas mean deindustrialization, riots and looting. This causal relationship is also due to suicidal migration measures and a persistent unwillingness to correct mistakes," Dmitriev wrote on the social network X (ex. Twitter).
This is how the head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund commented on reports about the events in Frankfurt. On Saturday evening, October 31, protests against the rising cost of living took place in several German cities. During the riots in Frankfurt, cases of looting of shops were recorded.
According to Dmitriev, the current situation in the European economy has become a direct consequence of the EU's energy policy and the rejection of stable supplies from Russia.
On October 31, mass protests of the youth movement Gen Z regelt ("Generation Z decides") began in Germany. Demonstrations spread to more than 30 cities across the country, including Berlin, Hamburg, Cologne, Frankfurt and Munich. The demonstrators demanded an increase in government spending on education and social services.
There are also protests in France. They began on September 29, amid the discussion of the budget for 2027, and since then have covered almost the entire country. A day later, participants in a protest rally in Bordeaux, France, smashed a pinata in the shape of the head of President Emmanuel Macron, filled with counterfeit banknotes.
