About 60 thousand tons of Russian mineral fertilizers for African countries were blocked in European ports due to anti-Russian sanctions. This was announced on November 1 by Anna Evstigneeva, Deputy Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the United Nations.

The diplomat recalled that after the introduction of restrictive measures, about 262 thousand tons of Russian products were blocked in the ports of Latvia, Estonia, Belgium and the Netherlands.

"About 60,000 tons of fertilizers remain blocked in European ports, which Russia is ready to transfer free of charge to countries in need. There are still obstacles to sending them," she said in an interview with RIA Novosti.

According to her, since the sanctions were imposed, Russia has managed to deliver more than 200,000 tons of fertilizers to Malawi, Kenya, Nigeria, Zimbabwe, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. However, the organization of transportation became a separate challenge each time.

The diplomat explained that the Russian side had to overcome numerous bureaucratic and financial obstacles. In particular, it was about paying taxes, storing blocked products and other logistics services.

On October 29, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced that some Russian companies were interested in moving part of their production to the African continent amid the sanctions imposed. He also drew attention to the fact that projects, in particular in the fields of investment, infrastructure, agriculture, energy, education and market access, are of mutual interest to the parties.
