The introduction of visas for Russian citizens in Montenegro from November 1 is economic suicide. This was announced on November 1 by the chairman of the Democratic People's Party (DNP), Milan Knezevich.

"We are talking about the economic suicide of Montenegro," he said in an interview with RIA Novosti.

According to the politician, restrictive measures jeopardize the future tourist season and the indicator of the gross domestic product (GDP) of the republic. Knezhevich stressed that Russia will not suffer damage from the continuation of its anti-Russian policy, while the initiators of such measures will face negative consequences.

The DNP chairman added that the Russian Federation is likely to respond to this step with equivalent measures and introduce visas for citizens of Montenegro.

On October 21, Russian Ambassador to Montenegro Alexander Lukashik announced that the Montenegrin side had sent an official notification on the termination of the Agreement between the Government of the Russian Federation and the Government of Montenegro on the conditions of mutual travel of Citizens dated September 24, 2008, effective November 1. The Russian Union of Travel Industry announced on October 26 that a visa to Montenegro will cost Russians €35 per adult and €17.5 per child under 14 years of age.
