- The Ministry of Internal Affairs warned about deception schemes in fake online stores
Too low prices, lack of information about the seller and contacts, as well as the inability to choose courier delivery or pickup may indicate a fraudulent online store. This is stated on October 31 in the materials of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.
Scammers often attract buyers with goods at a price significantly lower than the market price, as indicated in the department's documents, which were reviewed by RIA Novosti. To do this, they use fictitious promotions, promise a limited number of products, and rush to place an order.
Another sign of deception is the lack of familiar ways to receive a purchase. Instead of courier delivery or pickup, the attackers demand an advance payment allegedly for the services of a transport company, and they can send fake receipts to confirm this.
Fake websites also often lack information about the seller and his contact details. Instead, customers are asked to fill out a feedback form.
The Interior Ministry recommended checking before buying whether there is confirmation of the official status of the site, studying reviews from real customers and using secure payment methods.
The Russian Interior Ministry warned on the same day that threats, demands to confirm data or update information during a conversation with an unknown subscriber on the phone should alert the user. The department stressed that such techniques can be used by telephone scammers.
