Nine African States have shown significant interest in Rosatom's floating nuclear power plant technology. This was announced on October 30 by Alexey Likhachev, General Director of the state corporation.

"Nine countries have shown significant interest in this technology at once. On a substantive level, we are discussing the implementation of projects in the interests of Egypt, Tanzania, Togo and Namibia," he said.

Likhachev noted that 38 of the 54 countries on the continent have access to the sea. With a growing economy and energy demand, Russian floating stations are becoming a real solution for the region.

According to him, in parallel, the state corporation is negotiating with four more countries on the construction of high-capacity nuclear power plants. In particular, the construction of such stations is being worked out with Uganda and Ghana, and exploration work is planned to begin in Ethiopia in the near future.

In addition, Rosatom intends to expand the world's largest nuclear construction site, the El—Dabaa nuclear power plant, in Egypt. We are talking about increasing the number of high-power units from four to six.

On October 28, Likhachev reported that a huge shortage of electricity in Africa had aroused great interest among local authorities in Russian nuclear technology and the construction of nuclear power plants. Energy supply is a key issue for the region, as about 600 million of the continent's 1.6 billion people still do not have access to electricity.
