American swimmer Van Mathias has set a new world record in the 100 m breaststroke in short water. This was announced on October 30 by the International Federation of Water Sports (World Aquatics).

"Van Mathias showed an incredible result of 55.14 seconds in the men's 100 m breaststroke as part of the US qualifying competitions for the 2026 World Short Course Championships!" the World Aquatics press service wrote on the social network X (ex. Twitter).

Mathias surpassed the result of Belarusian swimmer Ilya Shimanovich, who has held the world record since 2021. Then Szymanowicz swam the 100-meter in 55.28 seconds.

In the same month, Russian athletes also showed good results in short water. So, on October 2, Egor Kornev repeated the world record in swimming at a distance of 100 m crawl. At the World Cup in Baku, he clocked 44.84 seconds, equaling the achievement of Australian Kyle Chalmers five years ago.
