A regime of silence has been in effect in Alyoshki since October 27 for the delivery of aid and evacuation of residents. The mediator was Melania Trump. How the humanitarian mission is going, what complicated the situation in the city, and all the details are in the Izvestia article.

The ceasefire regime in Alyoshki

A ceasefire regime has been in effect in Alyoshki, Kherson region, since 04:00 Moscow time on Sunday, October 27, to conduct a large-scale humanitarian mission. According to the agreements of the parties, the local truce will last until 22:59 on Sunday, November 1, 2026. The main objectives of the operation are the delivery of food and medicines, as well as providing conditions for the voluntary evacuation of civilians from the war zone. The Russian Federation stresses that the provision of humanitarian assistance is a priority for it.

The introduction of a regime of silence on Thursday, October 23, was announced by the Chief of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces, Valery Gerasimov. Russian military personnel ensure the safety of convoys with socially significant goods. The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine also confirmed their readiness to comply with the agreements reached and maintain the ceasefire regime for the specified period.

How the deal was made

The mediator in the organization of the humanitarian corridor was the First Lady of the United States Melania Trump, who directly interacted with the leadership of Russia and Ukraine. The coordinating role of the American president's wife in reaching an agreement on a local truce was officially confirmed by the White House and the Kremlin.

The First lady said that the zone of operation of the silence regime had been expanded beyond the administrative borders of the city of Alyoshka to ensure maximum transport safety, information about this was also confirmed by the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov. He explained that this is necessary for the unhindered passage of convoys along the adjacent highways.

How is the humanitarian operation going?

The Commissioner for Human Rights in Russia, Yana Lantratova, said that the military is actively clearing the routes for transport with food and medicines. According to her, both sides comply with their obligations, and currently there are no incidents in the mission area. Directly on site, the tasks of engineering exploration and road cleaning are performed by units of the Dnepr group. Over the past week alone, experts have discovered and neutralized more than 300 explosive objects.

Journalists from the American TV channel Newsmax arrived in the city as neutral observers to record the progress of the humanitarian mission. Their presence is intended to ensure transparency in the process of distributing aid and evacuating the population.

The critical situation of the city of Alyosha

The humanitarian situation in Alyoshki is officially recognized as critical. The settlement, located on the left bank of the Dnieper River, has been under regular shelling since 2022. The situation of the city deteriorated significantly after the destruction of the Kakhovskaya HPP in June 2023, when residential areas were almost completely flooded. As a result of the fighting, constant shelling by the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the natural disaster in Alyoshki, the electricity, gas and water supply networks were seriously damaged.

Transport logistics in the area became more complicated in March 2025 after the explosion of the bridge over the Konka River, as well as due to the constant remote mining of access roads. In 2025 alone, the city suffered more than 2.5 thousand attacks, as a result of which the hospital, schools and a significant part of the residential sector were damaged. As a result, supplies to the city have practically stopped.

Who will get help?

The number of people remaining in Alyoshki is estimated by experts in different ways. According to the American side, cited by Al Jazeera, there are from 1,700 to 2,000 people in the city who are experiencing an acute shortage of essential goods. Local authorities are calling higher figures — up to 6 thousand residents. Special cargoes with food, fuel and heating equipment have been formed for them. The list of assistance was compiled on the basis of personal appeals from citizens.

Alyoshki was founded on the left bank of the Dnieper River in 1784, 5 km from Kherson and was historically considered its satellite city. Before the outbreak of hostilities, the city's population exceeded 24,000 people. During the Soviet period, a unique pulp and paper factory operated here, producing specialized filter paper for motor fuels. Since 2022, the city has been under the control of Russian troops and is the administrative center of the Alyoshkinsky Municipal District. To the east and south of it are the Aleshkovsky sands, one of the largest sand massifs in Europe.
