Over the past day, 264 road accidents have occurred on Russian roads, in which 19 people were killed and 304 injured, 13 of the dead were passengers and drivers. This was reported to Izvestia on October 28 by the State Traffic Inspectorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.

There were 19 accidents involving buses, in which there were no fatalities, but 22 road users, including three children, needed medical help. The reason for 14 bus accidents were traffic violations committed by drivers of other vehicles.

As a result of 75 accidents, 27 of which occurred at pedestrian crossings and 48 outside their area of operation, six pedestrians were killed, and 72 more were injured in various degrees of severity. Among the injured were 14 young pedestrians, while half of them were injured when crossing the roadway in designated areas.

Over the past day, 35 accidents involving minors were registered, in which 38 young road users were injured, including 14 passengers and 10 drivers, three of whom were driving motor vehicles. There are no dead children.

The State Traffic Inspectorate urged motorists to strictly observe traffic regulations and be more attentive to their well-being before getting behind the wheel. You should not overestimate your strength and health, take care of yourself, and do not neglect even the most minor signs of impending fatigue or illness. You should always go on a trip well rested and healthy, and before leaving, be sure to check the technical condition of the vehicle. Drivers were urged to strictly observe the rules for the safe transportation of children, take care of their young passengers, and prevent even the prerequisites for a possible tragedy.

During the autumn holidays, parents were reminded of the need to be more attentive to their school-age children. The lack or negligence of parental control over the behavior and leisure of children often leads to injury or death of young road users, the department noted. It is important to regularly teach children about the need to follow the rules of safe behavior, demonstrating a personal example of law-abiding participation in traffic during joint trips or walks.

"In addition, we urge motorists to be more careful both on the roads near settlements and cities, and in the settlements themselves. Remember that the behavior of children when crossing the roadway can be unpredictable, so take special care when approaching intersections, pedestrian crossings, park areas and other problem areas, from where young pedestrians may unexpectedly appear on the road, neglecting their own safety issues. We recommend that you slow down to the minimum speed in advance in order to have time to react to a sudden change in the road situation at any moment. Always stop the vehicle in front of unregulated pedestrian crossings to allow pedestrians to pass unhindered," said Police Colonel Sergey Hrantskevich, head of the Department for Road Safety Promotion and Prevention of Child traffic Injuries at the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation.

At the end of October, retroreflective moose figures were installed on the M-11 Neva expressway in the Novgorod region. They are designed to warn drivers about areas where wild animals may enter the roadway.
