Military exercises in Germany have revealed the vulnerability of the US Army to Russian drones

The American Greywolf brigade suffered more than 70% of drone losses during the Combined Resolve exercises in Germany. This was reported on October 23 by the InfoBRICS portal with reference to a report by the Military Review military magazine.

"Field training and well-practiced combat operations accounted for about 60% of effective protection against drones at the brigade level... Technological systems alone are not enough to provide adequate protection against constant aerial surveillance," the publication says.

According to the report, during the exercises, the Ukrainian Nemesis unit launched about 750 drones in 10 days to simulate direct attacks and adjust artillery fire. Drones have "virtually nullified" the effectiveness of American suppression systems, the publication says.

It clarifies that the US military had to rely on improvised solutions: improved camouflage, dispersal and less predictable routes. To reduce the electronic footprint, the brigade limited radio transmissions, and some crews stopped using Starshield satellite communications, which made coordination more difficult and doubled resupply time.

In addition, the exercises revealed a flaw in the command system: American troops deployed more than 700 of their own drones, but were unable to coordinate them because the volume of information overloaded the Greywolf command center.

Given all this, the publication drew a parallel with the practice of using drones by the Russian Armed Forces, seeing that the US military is vulnerable to Russian drones under these introductory conditions.

On October 6, military expert and historian of the air defense forces Yuri Knutov assessed the concept of a "quick victory" proposed by NATO, which involves an infantry offensive supported by a large number of drones. He noted that, in his opinion, it is almost impossible to carry out such an operation against Russia due to the capabilities of the Russian army, radar systems and missile weapons. The expert stressed that drones play a key role in modern warfare, so the advantage is given to the side that is able to suppress enemy UAVs and at the same time protect its own mobile units.
