The Second Western District Military Court sentenced Sergey Mazur, a 54‑year-old businessman from Kursk, a native of the Vinnytsia region of Ukraine, and a citizen of the Russian Federation (included in the list of terrorists and extremists in the Russian Federation). He was found guilty of a number of serious crimes, including attempted terrorist attack and preparation for an attack on a statesman of the Kursk region. Information about this was published on October 26 by the court's press service in the Maks messenger.

"The court, based on the totality of the crimes committed by partial addition, sentenced Mazur to a final sentence of 25 years in prison with the first seven years served in prison, and the rest of the sentence — 18 years in a high—security penal colony, with a fine of 1.6 million rubles, with a fine of 60 thousand rubles, with restriction of liberty for a term of one year and six months," the publication says.

As explained in court, Mazur kept in touch with a representative of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine. In 2024, on the instructions of the curator, he collected and transmitted information about military and civilian facilities, as well as conducted reconnaissance near the regional government building.: I took photos and videos of him from different points and sent him materials.

In 2025, he was offered to organize a terrorist attack and an attack on a high—ranking representative of the regional government in the administrative building of Kursk - Mazur agreed. The plan was that he would take the components from the cache, assemble the explosive device and place it next to the administrative building. However, he did not manage to realize his plan: law enforcement officers detained him at the moment when he was taking out an explosive device from a hiding place.

The court also decided to convert 79,619 rubles seized from the convict into state revenue. In addition, 188,417 rubles were recovered from Mazur, which is the procedural costs covering the payment of lawyers who participated in the case as intended during the investigation and in court.

On October 19, the FSB Central Control Center of Russia reported that a local resident had been detained in Crimea on suspicion of transmitting information about air defense to the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine. A criminal case has been opened against the Crimean woman under Article 275 ("High treason"). At the moment, she has been given a preventive measure in the form of arrest. The woman faces imprisonment for a term of 12 years or more.
