In the Boguchansky district of the Krasnoyarsk Territory, a bear attacked a guard at an industrial base, and a man died as a result of his injuries. This was announced on Friday, October 23, RIA Novosti reported, citing data from the investigative authorities.

The attack took place in the morning on the territory of a sawmill located a few kilometers from the village of Boguchany. The victim of the predator was a 63-year-old man who served as a security guard at the facility. The deceased became the eighth victim of a bear attack in the region since the beginning of the autumn season in 2026. The beast that carried out the attack was discovered and eliminated by hunters shortly after the incident.

The investigation checks the actions of officials

The Boguchansky interdistrict investigative Department of the GSU of the Investigative Committee of Russia for the Krasnoyarsk Territory and the Republic of Khakassia has launched a procedural check on the death of a person. A forensic medical examination has been appointed, based on the results of which a decision will be made on the initiation of a criminal case. At the same time, a criminal case of negligence (Part 3 of Article 293 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation) against officials of the Ministry of Ecology and Rational Use of Natural Resources of the region is being investigated in the region. According to investigators, officials did not ensure proper control over the number of predators, which led to an increase in the number of incidents.

The situation with the release of bears to settlements in the Boguchansky district remains tense. Local authorities reported that since the beginning of the current season, 67 bears have already been eliminated in the area due to a direct threat to human safety. In total, the unified duty and dispatch service received about 80 complaints from residents about the appearance of bears within the boundaries of settlements. Each message is checked by experts, but not in all cases the presence of predators is confirmed.

Almost 1,000 bears were shot in the region.

In the Krasnoyarsk Territory as a whole, the scale of population regulation is much higher. According to the data of the regional Ministry of Natural Resources, which is cited by AIF Krasnoyarsk, as of October 12, 982 bears were shot in the region. To encourage hunters, the authorities have established a monetary reward: 36.5 thousand rubles are paid for each animal produced under the regulation.

Due to the increased frequency of animal aggression in the region, there are high-alert modes. In particular, access for tourists to the Krasnoyarsk Pillars National Park is restricted — the ban will be in effect approximately until November 10. Similar measures have been taken in the Tyva Nature Park, where visits to forests are limited until November 30.
