The agreement on the supply of diesel fuel can become a tool for restarting relations between Russia and the United States. This was announced on October 22 by Karin Kneissl, former Minister of Foreign Affairs of Austria, head of the St. Petersburg State University's G.O.R.K.I. Center.

According to her, the deal indicates a change in the approach of the American side and the growing pragmatism of business in relation to the Russian Federation. Kneissl stressed that US President Donald Trump is aware of the risks of attacks on energy infrastructure, which lead to a reduction in supply and an increase in world prices.

"Last Friday, the agreement on diesel fuel came as a surprise. I think it's not just about 3 million barrels per month. <...> It's a kind of reset button, a 180—degree turn, the beginning of a new chapter," she said on Solovyov Live.

According to the ex-minister, such steps on the part of American business can lay the foundation for building new pragmatic relations between states in the future.

Scott Ritter, a former U.S. Marine Corps intelligence officer and political scientist, told Izvestia on August 19 that allowing purchases of Russian energy resources allows the president of the Middle States to demonstrate the ability to stabilize world markets and create incentives to improve economic relations with Russia.
