Buffett's children thought about the distribution of their father's fortune
The three children of American investor Warren Buffett — Susie, Howard and Peter — have not yet decided how to manage his fortune. This was reported by Bloomberg on October 19.
"We don't know. We don't know yet," said the eldest of the heirs, 73-year-old Susie Buffett, answering a question about whether a common fund would be created or whether each of the children would independently manage their share.
The publication reports that the eldest of the billionaire's children runs The Sherwood Foundation in Nebraska. According to her, she is glad to be able to benefit, but at the same time she feels responsible to her parents and wants to do everything right.
Howard Buffett, who is 71 years old, has been chairman of the Board of directors of Berkshire Hathaway since September and intends to continue charitable projects. By the end of last year, he had sent more than $1.2 billion to Ukraine, almost $167 million to the Democratic Republic of the Congo, $497 million to Rwanda and $287 million to Colombia. He is also interested in supporting health care in rural Nebraska and peace initiatives in the Congo. Howard Buffett visited Ukraine more than 20 times.
The youngest heir, Peter Buffett, is a 68—year-old musician and head of the NoVo Foundation charity organization, who opposes the concentration of billions of dollars in the hands of individuals.
"I don't think anyone should have billions of dollars. It's just unnatural," he said.
Peter is also considering initiatives related to an unconditional basic income — regular payments of a fixed amount to citizens without additional conditions, the newspaper writes.
According to the agency, the three heirs call each other every Sunday. Susie helps take care of her father and tells her brothers about his affairs.
CNBC reported on September 18 that Buffett had resigned as chairman of Berkshire Hathaway Holding, which he had headed since 1965. According to the publication, Buffett received the status of honorary chairman of Berkshire Hathaway, while he will remain a member of the company's board of directors.
His son Howard became the new chairman of the holding. Such an appointment is provided for by Berkshire Hathaway's long-approved succession plan. Susan Decker will continue to serve as the Lead Independent Director.
