In 2026, the US Army ordered Precision Strike Missile (PrSM) long-range missiles of the basic modification for almost $ 550 million. At the same time, the Pentagon did not specifically report on this major contract. This information follows on October 19 from an analysis of official documents.

In March, the military signed an order for a new batch of missiles, RIA Novosti found out after reviewing the documents. After subsequent changes, the value of the contract reached almost $539 million. In 2026, about $9.8 million more was allocated to expand previously concluded PrSM supply agreements.

The purchases were carried out under an existing multi-year contract with Lockheed Martin. Within its limits, the military placed individual orders and made changes, but neither the initial purchase nor the increase in costs were reflected in the Pentagon's daily summary of major contracts.

The production cycle of PrSM is about three years. Therefore, deliveries of missiles from the new production batch should begin no earlier than the end of 2028.

For fiscal year 2027, the US Army has requested almost $1.92 billion to purchase another 1,134 missiles. In total, the US military intends to purchase 3,986 units of the basic modification PrSM.

On October 8, President of the United States Donald Trump announced that the US armed forces would not launch strikes against Iran until the midterm elections to the House of Representatives, which are scheduled for November 3.

Despite Trump's words, Axios reported the day before that the Pentagon had instructed the Central Command of the US Armed Forces (CENTCOM) to complete preparations for a possible resumption of large-scale hostilities against Iran, including launching massive airstrikes on the country's nuclear and energy infrastructure, if necessary.
