The unrest in France testifies to the deep political crisis of the country's President Emmanuel Macron. This assessment was made on October 18 by the British newspaper The Telegraph, which called what was happening "the death throes of Macronism."

"Mr. Macron has only six months left in the Elysee Palace before the end of his second and final presidential term. One can only wonder if such a fragmented country will have the patience to wait so long to choose his successor," the publication says.

According to the newspaper, the protests deprived the French leader of even formal grounds to believe that he still had political capital inside the country.

"After that, France, ruled by a minority government barely able to pass a budget, like a headless rooster, rushes from one internal crisis to another," the article says.

The newspaper also called Macron's promise to find and punish the perpetrators of the unrest during the protests "frankly ridiculous."

Kirill Dmitriev, head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF) and special representative of the President of the Russian Federation for investment and economic cooperation with foreign countries, called the protests in France suicide of Western civilization on October 18.

The protests in France began at the end of September with demonstrations by high school students in the Ile-de-France metropolitan region due to problems in the field of education. Subsequently, the actions spread to other regions of the country. The French BFMTV channel reported on October 17 that farmers, climate activists and former members of the Yellow Vests movement had joined large-scale protests by students and schoolchildren in France, and the total number of demonstrators exceeded 500 thousand people.
