Russians were given the maximum length of sick leave
The maximum duration of continuous sick leave in Russia is 10 months, and in the treatment of tuberculosis — 12 months. This was announced on October 19 by Associate Professor of the K. N. Gusov Department of Labor Law and Social Security Law at O. E. Kutafin University (MGUA) Mikhail Afanasyev.
"The total period is limited to 10 months from the date of the onset of disability, and for tuberculosis treatment — 12 months," the expert explained in an interview with TASS.
The attending physician has the right to independently issue a disability certificate for up to 15 calendar days. For further extension, a decision of the medical commission will be required, Afanasyev said.
Temporary disability benefits are paid for the entire period of illness — until the restoration of working capacity or the establishment of disability.
Igor Balynin, PhD in Economics, Associate Professor at the Financial University under the Government of the Russian Federation, announced on September 22 that in 2026 the self-employed can take out voluntary insurance in case of illness or injury. The amount of the monthly contribution will depend on the selected benefit amount and will amount to 1,344 or 1,920 rubles.
