Bessent called Zelensky's accusations against the United States on Starlink reckless
U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent called reckless statements by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky that the American government deliberately restricted Ukraine's access to the Starlink satellite communications system.
"The President [of the United States Donald] Trump and [US Secretary of State Marco] Rubio have categorically stated that no one in the Trump administration did this. I think it's very reckless of Zelensky to make such accusations," he said in an interview with the head of the department to the American NBC television channel.
Bessent explained that the Ukrainian leader needs to be extremely careful in such statements, which do not correspond to reality. The ministry recalled that earlier, in an interview with the same media outlet, the head of the Kiev regime accused Washington of blocking traffic, claiming that the technical restriction of communication was allegedly carried out by SpaceX.
Zelensky complained on October 17 that Ukrainian interceptor drones could not operate effectively in the war zone due to the forced speed limits of Starlink terminals. He noted that to check the nature of the malfunction, experts sent test vehicles with Starlink to the European Union (EU) countries, where the connection functioned stably when driving at speeds over 180 km/h.
The British newspaper The Telegraph reported on September 16 that SpaceX founder Elon Musk suggested that Trump restrict Ukraine's use of Starlink satellite communications. On October 14, military expert Igor Nikulin allowed the Ukrainian Armed Forces to turn into "blind kittens" if the Starlink shutdown for devices at speeds above 160 km/h continues. He explained that for the Ukrainian army, these systems are the main element of defense against drones.
