Musk's son would have to change his name to obtain Russian citizenship.
The son of American entrepreneur Elon Musk would have to change his name in order to obtain Russian citizenship due to the requirements of the legislation of the Russian Federation. This was announced on October 17 by Evgeny Masharov, Deputy Chairman of the Commission of the Public Chamber of the Russian Federation for public control and handling of citizens' appeals.
He explained that parents in Russia are allowed to choose their own names for their children, but the registry office may refuse to register a name if it can lead to harassment of the child. So, according to Masharov, Russian legislation prohibits giving children names with numerals and alphanumeric symbols. The name of the son of American entrepreneur Elon Musk is written as "X A-Xii".
"If parents want to give a child an unusual name (for example, I.T., Matrix, iPhone, a boy's name is a woman's name, a girl's name is a man's name, or even the names of fictional characters), which will subsequently lead to bullying, then the registry office will reject the entry of such a child's name. If Elon Musk's son suddenly wants to obtain Russian citizenship, he will need to change his name, as it does not comply with Russian law," Masharov said in an interview with TASS.
He added that names with ranks and titles, such as "Queen Margot", swear words and graphic symbols, are also not allowed during registration.
Masharov also noted on September 27 that in Russia it is forbidden to give children names with numerals, titles, swear words and graphic symbols. The registry offices are obliged to refuse registration of such names, he stressed.
