The expert called the Volchansk pocket a well-planned operation of the Russian Armed Forces.

The Volchansk pocket was the result of a well-planned and coordinated operation of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation (RF Armed Forces), which exerted moral and psychological pressure on the Ukrainian command and personnel. Alexey Samoilov, Candidate of Geographical Sciences, head of the analytical department of the international movement "The Other Ukraine", told Izvestia on October 17.

"The Volchansky or Reznikovsky cauldron is a systematic, well—planned and successfully implemented military operation, and a comprehensive military operation of the Russian Armed Forces. <...> It was done in a fully coordinated, coordinated manner, and most importantly, very quickly and efficiently," the expert noted.

Samoilov said that the environment exerted great moral and psychological pressure on the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU). Western media and analytical resources that monitor the development of the Ukrainian conflict wrote about the Volchansk cauldron, but for a long time they did not give it a real assessment.

"But now they recognize this, and the moral and psychological pressure - the closure and destruction of the boiler — is on both the leadership of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the personnel, and even more so on the Kharkov direction," Samoilov stressed.

The expert added that the situation has also influenced the perception of the conflict in the West. According to him, the events showed that the Ukrainian troops were unable to counteract the Russian units.

"This has had a very serious impact in the West, as it has shown that the Ukrainian Armed Forces do not have the resources to break through the encirclement formed by Russian troops, come to the aid of their encircled units and either withdraw them from there, or on the contrary strengthen, strengthen and push back Russian troops, breaking through the encirclement," Samoilov summed up.

On October 16, the Russian army established full control over the Volchansk–Budarky highway, through which the Ukrainian Armed Forces tried to lay logistics routes. According to the ministry, during the fighting, assault units provided adjustments for artillery strikes, and drone crews monitored the movement of Ukrainian equipment. The detected vehicles were destroyed before arriving at the positions, which made it possible to disrupt the delivery of ammunition and food.

Military expert and political scientist Yuri Knutov told Izvestia on the same day that the Russian Armed Forces first split the Volchansk pocket into several parts, which were later penetrated by intelligence groups. At the same time, constant surveillance was carried out, targets were identified, which were then attacked by artillery and aircraft, after which infantry entered into action.
