Singer Valeria spoke about psychological violence in her marriage with Shulgin

Singer Valeria in the new edition of the show "Oh, Mommies" on VK Video shared the details of her married life with composer Alexander Shulgin. The artist spoke about the strict control and strange prohibitions that she and her children faced.

Ten years of forced vegetarianism

According to the singer, her ex-husband imposed his beliefs on the family, in particular forced vegetarianism. Because of Shulgin's position, the singer has not eaten meat for 10 years. Similar restrictions applied to children who had to break the ban in the school cafeteria. The actress called this story both funny and sad.

"The father of my children was a vegetarian. He felt sorry for the bird. There are no people, but I feel sorry for the bird. He didn't eat meat himself and forced us all to live the same way. [...] They would come to the dining room and there would be some sausages. They looked at each other and ate those sausages under the table! It was just some kind of horror. Then the teachers told me, "We felt so sorry for them that we let them," Valeria said.

The star noted that the external success of their musical tandem in the 90s hid a difficult reality: psychological violence, physical abuse and financial control by Shulgin. According to the newspaper Komsomolskaya Pravda, the composer completely isolated his young wife from close friends and relatives, and also took all income from concert performances.

In interviews over the years, the singer also mentioned cases of physical aggression from her ex-husband. According to her statements, Shulgin could be violent against the background of alcohol consumption; the actress even recalled an episode with a knife in the leg. After the official divorce, which took place in 2002, the composer completely stopped participating in the lives of his children: Anna, Arseny and Artemy. According to Valeria, he not only stopped communicating with them, but also did not pay alimony for their maintenance.

Prigozhin became a worthy example for children

The opposite of the second marriage was Valeria's relationship with producer Joseph Prigozhin, which has lasted for more than 22 years. The actress emphasized that her current husband became a worthy example of masculinity for her children and took an active part in their upbringing, despite the lack of biological kinship.

"We had a masculine element in the family, there was a good example of a very courageous man next to us. Although Joseph was not their biological father, he was still an example to them," the singer added.

Joseph Prigozhin himself confirmed in a recent comment to StarHit that he considers his wife's children to be relatives. The producer complained about their biological father's indifference to the fate of the children, noting that Shulgin does not react in any way to what is happening in their lives. At the same time, important changes related to the self-determination of children took place in the family.: So, Valeria's daughter Anna officially changed her name to SHENA. The girl also refused Prigozhin's production support, deciding to build a musical career on her own.

Valeria summarized that she had long since let go of past resentments and perceived the difficult experience with her ex-husband as a harsh life lesson. According to her, this ordeal has tempered her character and taught her to truly appreciate harmony, love and respect in her current marriage.
