Dissect and rule: the liberation of Cherny and Nefedovka brings the finale of the Volchansky cauldron closer
Russian troops continue to eliminate isolated groups of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the Kharkiv region and the DPR. According to the Russian Defense Ministry, as a result of the offensive actions, the settlements of Nefedovka and Chernoe were liberated. According to military experts, the capture of these lines made it possible to dissect the enemy's defenses, disrupt its logistics and block the routes of penetration of sabotage and reconnaissance groups. At the same time, Russian units are tightening the encirclement on several sectors of the front. The elimination of the boilers will not only deprive the Ukrainian Armed Forces of significant forces, but will also expand the buffer zone near the Russian border, as well as free up reserves for attacks in other directions.
A step towards complete elimination
As a result of the successful offensive actions of Russian units in the Kharkiv region, the settlements of Nefedovka and Chernoe were liberated. Currently, fighting continues for the liberation of Nikolaevka and Varvarovka.
At the same time, the external control zone is expanding: battles are underway to establish control over Prikolotny, Kotovka and Gogino. In addition, the strongholds of the heavy mechanized brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and an assault regiment in the areas of Fedorovka and Maly Burluk were hit by fire, the Russian military department said.
The liberation of Cherny has a special operational significance, military expert Boris Jerelievsky told Izvestia.
— It was through this area that the enemy systematically attempted to enter sabotage and reconnaissance groups and break through. The transfer of the territory under the full control of Russian troops makes it possible to stop such attacks and completely block these areas," he explained.
According to the expert, fighting and active assault operations continue in the remaining settlements, while the dynamics of progress remains high. With a high degree of probability, the mopping-up phase is already underway, and the liquidation of the Volchansky boiler is entering its final stage. The final completion of the operation will take some time, as it is necessary to search for small groups and single enemy fighters who have taken refuge in forest plantations, as well as identify and defuse explosive barriers and traps, Jerelievsky noted.
Strategic effect and buffer zone
The liberation of Cherny and Nefedovka was the most important step towards the complete elimination of the blocked enemy group in this area. Despite the fact that Varvarovka and Nikolaevka are still under the control of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, and the Ukrainian command is trying to send reinforcements to the outer perimeter to unblock the trapped units, the situation remains critical for the enemy. They are unlikely to be able to withdraw at least some of their forces from the encirclement, military expert Yuri Knutov told Izvestia.
According to him, the elimination of this boiler is of direct strategic importance. First of all, the enemy is suffering heavy losses: initially, up to 1,700 people were surrounded, and the destruction of forces of this scale means the actual elimination of a large unit.
In addition, a successful sweep allows the buffer zone to be moved about 20 km from the Russian border, which will exclude the penetration of enemy troops and the operation of long-range artillery. It will be possible to deploy a military air defense system in the liberated territory to prevent flights of Ukrainian drones. Finally, after the operation is completed, Russian reserves will be released, which can be quickly transferred to other important areas, including Krasnolimanskoe.
There are practically no civilians left in the liberated villages, but the Ukrainian forces turned them into a well-developed network of strongholds in advance, military expert Gennady Alekhine told Izvestia. The settlement of Chernoye served as a key hub through which the enemy carried out the transfer of forces, equipment and ammunition in the direction of Veliky Burluk, therefore, the capture of these borders allows cutting the logistics of the Ukrainian forces and dissecting the internal contour of their defense.
At the same time, it is too early to talk about the complete completion of work on this site. The "gray zone" continues to play a huge role here — a strip of terrain that is not controlled by either side. Using this space, the enemy is trying to maneuver, transfer reserves and attempt to unblock its units trapped in neighboring isolated strongholds, the expert concluded.
Compression of the "boilers" in the DPR and the Kharkiv region
In parallel, fighting is also developing on the territory of the Donetsk People's Republic. In the village of Dobropole, 51st Army assault groups are advancing in the northwestern part of the city, while Marine units continue their offensive in its western districts. Over the past 24 hours, 31 buildings have been liberated there and up to 15 Ukrainian servicemen have been destroyed. In total, the losses of the Ukrainian armed forces in the area of responsibility of the Center group of forces amounted to 345 people, five armored combat vehicles and 12 vehicles, the Russian Defense Ministry said.
The practice of isolating large enemy forces in these areas is applied consistently. The encirclement of the AFU group in the Volchansk area of the Kharkiv region became known on September 7.
Already on September 11, the Russian military announced the formation of another encirclement in the area of Olkhovatka, located south-east of the main area, where two Ukrainian battalions were blocked (later Olkhovatka completely came under the control of the Russian Federation). Finally, on September 22, units of the Center group completed the encirclement of a major Ukrainian Armed Forces defense center in Dobropillya, pinching units of two brigades of the National Guard of Ukraine and the Skala assault regiment in the blockaded area.
