Figure skater Kamila Valieva will not take part in the first stage of the Russian Grand Prix, which will be held in Kazan, due to illness. She announced this on October 15 in her Telegram channel.

"Dear fans and fans of figure skating, my dear Kazan citizens. Unfortunately, I will not be able to compete at the Grand Prix in Kazan due to illness. I wish you good health, please take care of yourself. We will definitely see you at other stages of the Russian Grand Prix," the publication says.

The competition will be held from October 17th to 18th. Athletes will compete in all four sports: men's and women's single skating, ice dancing and pair skating.

Valieva has repeatedly participated and won both Russian and international competitions. In 2021, the figure skater was awarded the title of Master of Sports of Russia, and in 2022 — Honored Master of Sports of Russia.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov earlier on October 12 commented on the decision of the International Skating Union (ISU) to revoke Valiyeva's neutral status. The ISU claims that the figure skater allegedly stopped meeting the requirements. Peskov called Valieva a very strong girl who had already gone through great difficulties with honor and dignity, and expressed confidence that she would overcome all difficulties in the future.
