In 2025, 34.4 thousand drivers were convicted in Russia for repeated driving under the influence of alcohol, which is 16% less than a year earlier, when the courts handed down 41.1 thousand such sentences. This is evidenced by data from the judicial Department of the Supreme Court, Vedomosti reported on October 13. The statistics do not take into account the courts in the DPR, LPR, Zaporizhia and Kherson regions.

The largest group of convicts were drivers aged 36-40 years — 7,345 people. Another 6815 convicts were aged 31-35 years. Most often, the convicts had secondary general (9944 people) or secondary vocational (15.4 thousand people) education. At the same time, 16.9 thousand convicts were able to work, but did not have a permanent source of income.

Most often, the courts imposed compulsory labor — 21.8 thousand people received such punishment. 3,317 drivers were sentenced to imprisonment, 3,006 to forced labor, and 1,438 people received suspended sentences. Among those convicted, 1,933 were women, including 24 who were pregnant at the time of the crime and 97 who had children under the age of three.

It is also noted that the number of people convicted of other crimes against traffic safety and operation of transport has decreased. In 2025, 4,733 people were convicted of crimes under Parts 1 and 2 of Article 264 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, including violations while intoxicated, which is 3% less than in 2024. The number of people convicted of violations that negligently caused the death of two or more people (including those committed while intoxicated) decreased by almost 26%, to 362 people. At the same time, the number of sentences for accidents involving the death of one person increased by 2%, to 3,604 drivers.

Experts attribute the decrease in the number of repeated cases of drunk driving, including the possibility of car confiscation.

As reported on October 1, over the next three years, it is planned to allocate a total of more than 21 billion rubles to finance the federal project "Road Safety", implemented as part of the national project "Infrastructure for Life". This is provided for by the draft federal budget for 2027 and the planning period of 2028 and 2029, submitted to the State Duma for consideration.
